The People’s National Party (PNP) has strongly criticised Minister Daryl Vaz, labelling his recent remarks at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) meeting as “reckless and irresponsible.”
The controversy erupted after Vaz, speaking at a JLP meeting in Kingston Central on Sunday, reportedly suggested that nearby gunfire was politically motivated despite no evidence to support the claim.
In a statement on Monday, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell condemned Vaz for attributing political motives to the shooting without confirmation from law enforcement.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has since stated that the incident does not appear to be politically driven.
