Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Government is doing a very good job in addressing the country’s crime problem.

He adds that the Minister of National Security and the heads of the security forces have been doing a good job with the resources at their disposal.

Mr. Holness yesterday announced that seven police divisions were under states of emergency, due to the spike in murders in those areas. There has been been a 10% increase in murders compared to last year, with 1,240 murders committed up to Friday.

He says Jamaicans should always hold the Government accountable. Noting that he has committed to doing everything in his power to ensure people are safe, Mr. Holness admits that murders have been a challenge.

However, he says the problem is deeper than a security matter, pointing to violence as a social issue.
