Prime Minister Andrew Holness says young people are also benefiting from the National Identification System (NIDS)
He made the statement during the issuing of the first batch of NIDS cards in Kingston on Friday.
The Prime Minister and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen were among the first group of Jamaicans to receive their ID cards.
Mr. Holness said young people were among those collecting their cards as well on Friday.
NIDS is designed to create a comprehensive and secure framework for collecting and storing identity information.
Mr. Holness reiterated that NIDS is not mandatory and will eventually serve as the ultimate identification card, making it easier for persons to do business.
