PM ANNOUNCES $1.3B MITIGATION, SANITATION, DRAIN CLEANING & BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM

Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday (Tues) announced a $1.3b mitigation, sanitation, drain cleaning and beautification program.

Under the program, each constituency will be allocated $15m to target critical drains, road patching and to undertake sanitation as well as vector control works.

$4m is being allocated for bushing and drain cleaning, $3m for sanitation and beautification works, another $3m will go towards vector control, while $5m will be used for patching of potholes and road repairs.

Mr. Holness indicated that the funds will be allocated on a constituency basis and will see the direct involvement of each Member of Parliament.

He noted that the drains to be cleaned in the various areas, will be determined in consultation with the MPs and the execution done, through the National Works Agency NWA and the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

He emphasized that the vector control component of this program, is meant to complement the wider dengue mitigation program that will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
