Parliamentarians Pay Tribute to Outgoing Finance Minister

Members of the House of Representatives this afternoon paid tribute to Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke who is leaving government to take up an appointment at the International Monetary Fund, IMF.

Dr. Clarke officially announced his resignation as Member of Parliament for North West St. Andrew and Finance Minister last evening, while at a Jamaica Labour Party meeting in the constituency.

Dr. Clarke has been Finance Minister since 2018.

His resignation takes effect at midnight.

Effective October 31, he will take up the role of Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

In paying tribute, Leader of Government Business Edmund Bartlett, noted Dr Clarke’s contributions to the Jamaican economy through sound fiscal policies, which resulted in no tax being imposed during his tenure.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Business, Phillip Paulwell, noted that Dr. Clarke has served with distinction.
