TAYLOR SWIFT ‘COMPLETELY IN SHOCK’ OVER SOUTHPORT STABBINGS

Taylor Swift has said she is “completely in shock” after children attending a dance class inspired by her music were attacked in Southport, England.

A nine-year-old girl became the third child to die Tuesday, following the attack at a Swift-themed dance class in the seaside town on Monday.

Two other girls – aged six and seven – were killed in the attack.

Eight other children suffered stab wounds – five of which are still in a critical condition alongside two adults who were injured while trying to protect youngsters at the holiday club.

A 17-year-old boy from Banks in Lancashire has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody.

Police have said that, although the motive for the attack is unclear, it is not believed to be terror-related.

OUR TO OUTLINE STEPS TAKEN TO ENSURE SPEEDY RESTORATION OF POWER TO JPS CUSTOMERS

The Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR is to provide a comprehensive update on the steps it has taken to ensure speedy restoration of power to Jamaica Public Service, JPS customers.

The update will be done at this week’s Post Cabinet Press Conference tomorrow (Wed) at 9:00am.

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz and the JPS have been updating the nation on the company’s power restoration efforts since Hurricane Beryl’s passage on July 3.

However, Mr. Vaz has criticized the JPS for providing what he said are flawed updates, as many customers remain without electricity.

Noting that the OUR has responsibility for regulating the JPS, Mr. Vaz said the OUR was summoned to cabinet.

He said during yesterday’s (Mon) meeting cabinet members expressed concern about the utility regulator’s lack of advocacy during this critical period.

Mr. Vaz wants the OUR to apply more pressure on the JPS.

Meanwhile, Minister Vaz says the Jamaica Public Service, JPS needs to reinvest in its infrastructure.

He says while the JPS submitted its hurricane plan prior to the start of the season, the impacts of Hurricane Beryl and other weather events highlight that the company must pay urgent attention to its infrastructure.

Jamaican In Barbados Ordered to pay $15 000 or serve time

Jamaican Onickey Orain Reid was ordered to pay a $15 000 fine after apologising to the High Court for being caught with a firearm in Barbados.

Failure to pay the fine will result in his spending the alternative of 645 days in prison, which is the remainder of an eight-year starting sentence.

Reid pleaded guilty before the No.5 Supreme Court to having possession of an illegal 5.56mm calibre rifle on April 29, 2022.

The gun was discovered, by police, in the trunk of a car occupied by Reid and another person.

It was revealed that Reid is suffering from a gunshot wound for which he receives medical attention.

DARREN SAMMY AND HAYLEY MATTHEWS NAMED TO CPL ADVISORY BOARD

West Indies Cricket men’s white-ball coach Darren Sammy and West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews have both been named to the newly formed Caribbean Premier League (CPL) health, fitness, and well being advisory board.

The board, which will meet quarterly with senior CPL Staff, includes prominent figures such as Jamaican dr. Akshai Mansingh, CPL’s joint Chief Medical officer, and Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards, Principal Medical officer at the Trinidad & Tobago Ministry of Health.

This diverse team of experts is tasked with advising the CPL on leveraging its platform to create and promote health and wellness programs.

The CPL bowls off on August 29 in Antigua.

JAMAICA IS SECOND MOST WINNINGEST TEAM AT OLYMPICS SINCE 2000

Jamaica is the second most winningest country in terms of medals per athletes at the Olympics since the Summer Games in Sydney 2000.

Thats according to a new study by online betting guide which shows 19.33 percent of Jamaican athletes picked up medals which is the second highest percentage of any competing country behind Ethiopia.

Using Olympics.com and google keyword planner, the research has revealed the most successful nations for medal hauls, medals per athlete, improvement in medal rankings, gold medal wins, and nation domination in each sport, as well as determining the most successful and influential Olympians with a score out of 10.

Ethiopia with 22.70 percent is the country that has holistically punched above its weight when it comes to sports, particularly athletics, as every single Ethiopian Olympic medal winner has been in athletics.

Since 2000, they have won the men’s 10,000-metre race in four of the six olympics that have taken place and have the same record in the women’s race.
