CANADA TO APPEAL FIFA OLYMPICS POINT DEDUCTION

The “Dronegate” scandal at the 2024 Paris Olympics has taken a new turn as the Canadian Soccer Association appeals FIFA’s decision, to dock the national women’s team six points, in the group stage.

The appeal argues the penalty is disproportionate, following the discovery that a drone was used to spy on a rival team’s training session.

The appeal does not challenge FIFA’s one-year ban of coach Bev Priestman, the suspension of CSA officials Joseph Lombardi and Jasmine Mander, or the $226,000 fine.

The six-point deduction leaves Canada in third place in their group with zero points, despite wins over New Zealand and France.

OUR TO OUTLINE STEPS TAKEN TO ENSURE SPEEDY RESTORATION OF POWER TO JPS CUSTOMERS

The Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR is to provide a comprehensive update on the steps it has taken to ensure speedy restoration of power to Jamaica Public Service, JPS customers.

The update will be done at this week’s Post Cabinet Press Conference tomorrow (Wed) at 9:00am.

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz and the JPS have been updating the nation on the company’s power restoration efforts since Hurricane Beryl’s passage on July 3.

He says while the JPS submitted its hurricane plan prior to the start of the season, the impacts of Hurricane Beryl and other weather events highlight that the company must pay urgent attention to its infrastructure.
