Agriculture Minister Floyd Green says his Ministry is actively working to address the sector’s challenges, including those relating to irrigation and storage.
Mr. Green made the comment at yesterday’s Agricultural Show in Montpellier, St. James.
It followed criticism from his opposition counterpart, Dr. Dayton Campbell, that only 15 per cent of the country’s arable lands are irrigated.
Dr. Campbell, who was also at the agricultural show, called for urgent action, highlighting that the lack of irrigation is limiting productivity and affecting farmers.
However, Mr. Green argued that for each challenge, his Ministry has taken action.
He pointed to the over $10 billion spent in the last four years on irrigation.
