Opposition Spokesman on Education Damion Crawford has filed a claim in the Constitutional Court, arguing that Jamaican children’s rights to publicly funded tuition are being breached.
He says the State has failed to provide enough public pre-primary and primary school spaces to meet demand.
The claim, filed April 7, 2026, names the Attorney General as the defendant.
Crawford maintains the issue violates rights guaranteed under the Constitution and the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.
He also highlighted a shortage of school spaces in his St Catherine North Western constituency.
