Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy is appealing to Jamaicans who are able to give blood, to donate in light of the increased demand on the blood bank and transfusion service.

He says the call is due to concerns expressed about the shortage of blood at the National Blood Transfusion Service, due to the dengue outbreak.

According to Dr. Guy, with the Blood Bank having just half of its usual donation and the increased demand due to the complications of the dengue epidemic, where more blood and blood products, such as platelets are needed, plus the usual demands on the service, there is even more need to have citizens acting on this cause.

To facilitate this, the Opposition is calling on the Ministry of Health and Wellness, to sensitize the nation of this emergency and to facilitate the expanded opening hours of the various blood donor centers, to accommodate potential donors.
