Opposition Senator Lambert Brown has announced his intention to move a motion on paternity leave for Jamaican fathers.

His announcement comes on the heels of widespread public discourse on the policy and how it would be implemented in a society where men often impregnate multiple women.

Several corporate organisations including Carerras and Flow have recently indicated their willingness to grant paid paternity leave to new fathers working within those entities.

Speaking in the Senate today, Senator Brown said paternity leave would encourage fathers to be fully involved in the lives and upbringing of their children and ensure that paternal bonding commences at the earliest stage of the child’s life.
