The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed concern about yesterday’s resignation of the Member of Parliament for North East St. Ann, Marsha Smith.
The resignation was announced in a press release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
This resignation follows earlier reports that another constituency vacancy is looming with Dr. Nigel Clarke set to leave St. Andrew North West by October.
Another constituency is already without representation, following the resignation of Marisa Dalrymple Philibert as the MP for South Trelawny.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell said Marsha Smith’s resignation raises questions about the internal operations of the Jamaica Labour Party.
He noted that with at least 3 constituencies vacant, it would be unwise for a by-election to be held at this time, so close to the due date of the next general election.
