The Opposition is calling for urgent help from government for the most vulnerable in the face of rising food prices.
Over recent weeks, the prices of several food items including flour has gone up. Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson wants targeted measures implemented to assist the most vulnerable as he says food prices continue to increase beyond their capacity to manage.
He says several factors have contributed to an unprecedented increase in the prices of basic food items.
The Spokesman notes that in addition to the escalating food import bill which is passed on to consumers, the increases in gasoline and electricity costs have also impacted prices on the shelves.
