The National Secondary Students’ Council, NSSC, is calling on the ministries of Education and Culture to partner with it, in a bid to revise the current grooming policy for schools.

The call follows reports that a male student of a high school in Trelawny was allegedly instructed to cut or lock his hair in order to attend classes.

In a statement, the NSSC said over the years, there have been several reports of students being barred from school, as a result of their hairstyles being deemed “inappropriate” by school administrators.

President of the NSSC Jamaul Hall said the policy will highlight a standard for hair grooming across all high schools in Jamaica and allow special consideration to students of various religious and ethnic backgrounds
