Nicki Minaj has started another beef yet again, and her fans are confused!
This beef has been slow stewing for five years, allegedly.
Yesterday, the leader of the "Barbz" took to Twitter with a slew of insults towards R&B sensation SZA and the head of SZA's label (Top Dawg Entertainment), Punch.
Minaj uploaded a photo of Punch with a crude caption, accusing him of bullying and betrayal. Shortly after, SZA dropped a tweet which said, “Mercury retrograde... don’t take the bait, lol, silly goose.”
This post then triggered the onslaught of insults from Nicki towards SZA, with Nicki poking fun at SZA's appearance, telling her to draw back her freckles, before stating that the 'Snooze' artiste sounded like a "dead dog".
SZA fired back, calling Minaj’s posts “weird” and reminding fans of her success and sold-out tour. Minaj escalated further, claiming SZA isn’t relevant and declaring, “Boo, I’m an icon. You’re not.” The exchange comes as Minaj continues a recent streak of online outbursts targeting several industry figures, including Roc Nation and Megan Thee Stallion.
Earlier this morning (July 16), The Breakfast Club's Loren Lorosa shared exclusive details from a text exchange with Punch, head of TDE. According to him, the tension stems from a 2020 outreach by Minaj for a SZA feature.
“He said Nicki reached out for a collaboration, and he explained that SZA was deep in album mode at the time,” Lorosa said. “He told her he’d pass the message along, but that was the last communication they had. The feature never happened.”
Neither Punch nor SZA has issued further statements, but the drama has taken over social media, with fans debating whether this was ever just about a song or if it could be something deeper.
