2025 has hit us with another loss, this time it has taken "everyone's favourite" Judge.
Judge Frank Caprio, widely known as the “Nicest Judge in the World”, has died at 88.
Yesterday (August 20), his family announced his passing, saying he fought a long battle with pancreatic cancer and will be remembered for his compassion, humility, and kindness.
Caprio rose to fame through his show "Caught in Providence", where clips from his appearances in Providence, Rhode Island, courtroom went viral. He became known for showing leniency in traffic cases, often dismissing or reducing fines after hearing defendants’ struggles.
In some of his most memorable moments, he invited young children to the bench to help decide their parents’ cases, which showcased light-hearted exchanges that often ended with reduced fines.
Despite his illness, Caprio kept sharing positivity. Earlier this month, he posted on Instagram to wish Jamaicans a happy Independence Day, writing, “Wishing all my Jamaican friends a day filled with pride, joy, and celebration. Here’s to freedom, unity, and a future as colourful as your beaches and as strong as your roots...” Prime Minister Andrew Holness, in expressing condolences to Caprio’s family via X (formerly Twitter), described that post as “a powerful gesture that showed his warmth and thoughtfulness.”
Just a day before his death, Caprio shared a video from his hospital bed asking his followers to keep him in their prayers.
Judge Frank Caprio’s legacy of kindness, both inside and outside the courtroom, continues to inspire millions around the world.
