Streaming platform Netflix is currently under fire as it gets ready to premiere ‘Cuties’ on September 9th.
‘Cuties’ is a French teen coming of age film written and directed by Maimouna Doucoure that tells the story of an 11 year old Senegalese Muslim girl who joins a dance group for a twerking competition.
Despite not being released, the trailer shows the young stars dancing provocatively in skimpy outfits which has now sparked fury online, with persons shaming Netflix for agreeing to broadcast a movie that hyper-sexualizes children.
One person pointed out that the French poster for the movie is much more innocent that shows the girls shopping while the US poster is very provocative. Dozens of other commenters have demanded that the movie be pulled before its premiere. The movie is rated 17 which means that no one under the age of 17 is allowed to watch without parental guidance.
