Netflix Introduces New Way To Experience Subtitles, Starting With The ‘You’ Series Finale

The new final episodes of 'You' unveiled to viewers the ultimate fate of protagonist Joe Goldberg, but the series also revealed something else.

Netflix took the opportunity to use the popular thriller show, to roll out a new option for subscribers who like to toggle on subtitles.

Starting this month, the streamer will offer dialogue-only subtitles.

The subtitle-only option eliminates closed caption cues like [music playing] or [phone rings].

The new development starts with Netflix series 'You', but the long-term plan is to offer the subtitle option for new original titles on the platform and in every language that Netflix makes available.

The new subtitle format doesn't substitute closed captioning, which is designed to help deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, understand sound cues that help appreciate the full context of a scene.
