The National Council on Drug Abuse, NCDA, says social media has compounded the exposure of young people to drug use resulting in increased risk.

There is concern that young people observe certain behaviour on social media and are willing to experiment with the use of some psychoactive substances, becoming gateways to harder drugs.

The matter is one that the NCDA is taking steps to address by educating the public especially the youth and raising awareness about drug use.

One such awareness session was facilitated by the Justice ministry at a sensitisation session for Justices of the Peace. At the session, NCDA Research Analyst Uki Atkinson once again outlined the agency’s findings from a recent focus group study particularly as it relates to current trends about molly.

Ms. Atkinson pointed out that the NCDA is also concerned about reports of young people using substances commonly called lean, rush and rummy bears.
