Recently released crime figures by the police have revealed that Jamaica’s murder tally has surpassed that of last year’s numbers.
Crime statistics compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that 1302 persons have been killed up to December 21.
This is 46 more people killed over the similar period last year and fifteen more than the number killed for all of last year. St. Andrew South, which has been under a State of Public Emergency since July, recorded 165 murders – this is the highest in any police division.
This is followed by St. James, under a State of Emergency as well, with 146 murders. Then Clarendon, which is also under a State of Emergency, with 117 murders.
The figures indicate that there was also an increase in the number of shootings up to December 21 this year.
