Dancehall artiste Mr. Vegas publicly endorsed the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) during the St. James Central Workers Conference on Sunday, marking his first official appearance on a political platform. Addressing party members, he emphasized that he was speaking not as an artiste but as a patriotic citizen committed to the nation's progress.
Reflecting on past economic hardships, Mr. Vegas recounted experiences from his youth when shopkeepers would compel customers to purchase additional items—a practice known as "marrying goods." He attributed these challenges to the policies of the People's National Party (PNP) during the 1970s and expressed a desire to "break that curse and bring them to the light of the green," referring to converting PNP supporters to the JLP.
Mr. Vegas also voiced confidence in the re-election of St. James Central Member of Parliament Heroy Clarke, viewing it as a step toward securing a third consecutive term for the JLP. He praised Prime Minister Andrew Holness as a relatable leader and criticized opposition leader Mark Golding, questioning his credibility.
