Thirty-five Haitian nationals were repatriated to their homeland early this morning (Thurs), after arriving illegally on a beach in Kensington, Portland, on Monday.
According to police reports, authorities received information on Monday morning about a vessel carrying the migrants and quickly responded. Initial updates indicated that 21 persons had been taken into custody while searches continued for the remaining passengers.
Head of the Portland Police Division Superintendent Ainsley McCarthy, confirmed that all 35 Haitians were returned aboard a Jamaica Defence Force JDF vessel.
He is also appealing to residents not to provide shelter for the migrants, revealing that more than 30 of them tested positive for malaria.
