The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization is mourning the tragic passing of Tyra Spaulding, a 26-year-old accountant and finalist in the 2023 Miss Universe Jamaica competition.
Spaulding was discovered by relatives at her home on Tuesday evening. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected suicide, after reports indicated she was found hanging in her bedroom.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, the Miss Universe Jamaica Organization, alongside reigning queen Dr. Gabrielle Henry and national directors Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams, remembered Tyra as a vibrant, intelligent, and inspiring young woman whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.
Fellow contestants have also paid tribute to Tyra on social media.
Tyra Spaulding was one of 30 finalists in the 2023 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant.
