Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has announced that Louise “Miss Lou” Bennett-Coverley and Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley will be the first Jamaicans to be invested with the newly established Order of National Icon, a prestigious national honour.
This announcement was made during his National Heroes' Day message, where he revealed that the Administration had completed the preliminary work and is now moving forward with the legal process to formalize the new honour.
Both Miss Lou and Bob Marley already hold the national distinction of the Order of Merit, entitling them to the style "The Honourable."
Once the legal framework is in place, their elevation to the Order of National Icon will further cement their status as cultural and national treasures of Jamaica, recognized for their immense contributions to the country's heritage and international influence.
