Following the announcement of the new demerit point system, the Ministry of Energy, Transport and Telecommunications has outlined the suspension thresholds that will begin on October 1, 2026.
Drivers who accumulate 10 to 13 points will face a six-month suspension, while those with 14 to 19 points will receive a one-year suspension.
Anyone reaching 20 or more points will face a two-year suspension.
The Ministry clarified that a suspension only temporarily restricts a person from driving and does not cancel their driver’s licence.
