Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness, recommends nurses seeking abroad employment to choose a flexible contract that allows them to continue working in Jamaica.

Dr. Tufton was speaking at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in St. Andrew on May 12 during the International Nurses’ Day press briefing and launch of National Nurses’ Week.

This, and other flexible solutions, according to the Minister, “(are) and will have to be the future” of healthcare.

Dr. Tufton emphasized that “there is a bigger vision at play” that will need to be worked out in order to keep Jamaica’s healthcare workers, particularly nurses, employed.

He underlined that the government is putting in place a digital health information system to boost efficiency, as well as expanding the infrastructure of the island’s hospitals and health centers to improve the working environment for health care workers.
