As the world celebrates International Men’s Day 2019, Gender Minister Olivia Grange has launched two initiatives to address some of the health and wellness issues faced by Jamaican Men.

Speaking in her Men’s Day message today, Minister Grange says ‘everyday, men across Jamaica make tremendous sacrifices for their families, communities and nation.

She states that in their quest to ensure the well-being of others, many men often times don’t pay enough attention to their own well-being.

Against that background, the Ministry has focused this year’s observation on building strong men through health and wellness.

Meanwhile, call is being made for more men to be mentors for at-risk male adolescents in Jamaica.

The mentors are required for an upcoming mentorship programme, #Mentorme2020, an initiative of the Bureau of Gender Affairs, a division of the Ministry of Gender.

Speaking at this year’s International Men’s Day (IMD) church service on Sunday , Minister without Portfolio, Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Senator Pearnel Charles Jr., said the programme will focus on adolescent males who are at risk of not contributing towards the Vision 2030 National Development Plan.
