A man was shot and wounded during an altercation with a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force at the Criminal Records Office on Orange Street in Downtown Kingston yesterday (Tues).

In a statement by the Constabulary’s Communication Unit CCU, sometime after midday, the man who was a customer of the Criminal Records Office, turned up to collect two reports, one for himself and another for a connected party.

But when denied one of the reports, the man reportedly became boisterous and verbally abusive.

He was escorted from the premises by the staff.

The CCU stated that hours later, the man returned and physically attacked a Constable on duty at the office.

After being assaulted multiple times, the Constable was forced to take evasive action during which he fire one round from his service firearm, hitting his attacker.

Both men were taken to hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.

The Independent Commission of Investigations INDECOM is probing the matter.
