MAJOR INCREASE IN COVID CASES IN JAMAICA

The Health Ministry is reporting a big increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

276 more persons have tested positive for the virus, pushing the country’s case count to 93,226.

Of the new cases, 142 are females and 134 are males. They range in age from 22 days to 92 years.

All parishes recorded new cases, with Kingston and St. Andrew recording the highest number of cases with 86. St. James followed with 74 cases.

The positivity rate is 17.9 per cent.

Meantime, 5 more persons have died from COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 2,469.

The deceased lived in Trelawny and their ages ranged from 78 to 94 years.

One other death is under investigation.

Meantime, 87 persons are hospitalized. 19 of them are moderately ill, 16 are severely ill and 4 are critically ill.
