Machel Montano Apologises to Nicki Minaj

Soca icon Machel Montano has apologised to Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj, following a misunderstanding over comments he made during the Stink N Dutty fete.
On Saturday, the “Fast Wine” singer explained that while performing his song ‘Good Spirit,’ he became emotional, especially when singing the line "Don’t fight me down." The crowd’s overwhelming reaction intensified his feelings, and his words were misinterpreted as an accusation against Nicki Minaj and fellow artiste Trinidad Killa.
The leader of the “Barbz” responded with a strong video on Saturday, questioning what she had done to prompt Montano’s remarks and warning that she would confront him.
In response (in a now-deleted video), Montano posted a five-minute-long video clarifying that he deeply respects and admires Minaj. He then emphasised that she has never tried to undermine him, saying, “You always lift me up.”
Machel explained that his intention was not to accuse Nicki but to ask her to tell Trinidad Killa to stop “fighting him down” instead.
‘Mr. Fete’ admitted he was caught up in the moment, feeling hurt by previous remarks made by Killa. However, he acknowledged that Minaj had already stepped in to ensure Killa apologised to him.

Taking full responsibility, Montano, who calls himself the Monk, stated, “It was a misunderstanding—a mistake on my part—and I’m a big man, and I will say that.” He reassured Minaj and her fans that he had no intention of attacking her.
Despite the situation, Montano expressed a desire to collaborate with Minaj and Trinidad Killa, believing in the importance of musical unity. He also reiterated his commitment to supporting young artistes and announced a new music program to uplift the youth in Trinidad and the wider region.
