Actors Nia Long and Larenz Tate, best known for their iconic chemistry in the 1997 classic Love Jones, are reuniting for a new Netflix romantic drama that celebrates Black love once again.
While the title and full plot details are being kept secret, the film is said to draw heavy inspiration from singer Maxwell’s acclaimed album Urban Hang Suite, a neo-soul project that explores themes of romance, desire, and emotional growth.
The movie is expected to channel the same intimate tone and aesthetic as the album, offering a visually and emotionally rich story about love and connection.
The screenplay is being written by Kay Oye-gun, known for her work on This Is Us, and the film will be directed by Eugene Ashe, the filmmaker behind Sylvie’s Love, another stylish period romance.
In addition to starring, both Long and Tate will serve as executive producers, joining forces with Maxwell, John D. Hammond, and producers from Macro Film Studios.
This project marks the first time the two have shared the screen as romantic leads since Love Jones, though they have worked together on other projects, including the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic.
