As players in the entertainment industry await the reopening of the entertainment sector, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Desmond McKenzie says that consideration is being given to reduce the fees charged by municipal corporations for the staging of events.

In a special sitting of the Hanover municipal corporation on Thursday, Minister McKenzie said meetings will be held with all mayors later this month to discuss the matter.

The Minister noted that while it may only be for a period, the reduced fees, once given the go-ahead by local authorities would help to give the sector some stability post-COVID-19 recovery.

Minister McKenzie also used the opportunity to emphasize that the successful reopening of the entertainment sector will depend strongly on the participation and commitment of entertainment stakeholders to make it work.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expected to make an announcement on the reopening of the sector on June 22.
