LOAD OF GUNS INTERCEPTED YESTERDAY ORIGINATED FROM NEW YORK

The shipment of 20 firearms and more than 700 rounds of ammunition, intercepted at Kingston Wharves on Tuesday, reportedly originated in Bronx, New York.

The consignment arrived in Jamaica via Miami, Florida, with the consignee said to be of a St. Catherine address.

The firearms and ammunition were found in a crate labelled as containing household goods, toiletries, and food items.

The discovery was made Tuesday afternoon while security personnel was examining a container which arrived from the United States.

An Uzi submachine gun, an AK47 rifle, a sniper rifle with a tripod, two M16 rifles, and a machine gun were among the arms shipment.

Eight revolvers and 6 semi-automatic pistols were also seized.
