Liverpool fans and the football community are in mourning today.
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car crash at age 28.
The accident, which also took the life of the Portuguese forward's brother, Andre Silva, occurred early this morning (July 3) near Zamora, Spain.
The news has stunned the football world, as well as the entertainment industry, with scores of fans, including LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo, expressing their condolences and sadness at the loss.
James took to X to express his condolences with "“My prayers goes out to his loved ones during this time! May you all be guided and protected! YNWA [‘You’ll Never Walk Alon’e] JOTA!!”. “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” originally a show tune from the musical Carousel, has become a powerful anthem famously sung by Liverpool FC fans at matches.
Mourning fans have gathered at Anfield, laying flowers and tributes. Even rival supporters, including some in Everton jerseys, came to honour Jota.
Jota married his longtime partner, Rute, just 10 days ago. The couple shared a joyful wedding video on Instagram and had three children together. Videos and pictures which are now breaking the hearts of supporters globally.
Former manager Jürgen Klopp paid tribute, calling Jota “a fantastic player, a great friend, and a loving husband and father.”
