Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter VI Off to a Slower Start, But Still Makes Waves

Share

Lil Wayne dropped his long-awaited album "Tha Carter VI" last Friday (June 6), his first solo project in five years! While fans were excited, the album hasn’t gotten the best reviews from critics or listeners.
Despite that, "Tha Carter VI" is still expected to sell about 110,000 units in its first week. Of that number, 35,000 are actual album sales. If those numbers hold, the album will debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart (right behind country star Morgan Wallen).
This is a drop in comparison to the "A Milli" rapper's last two albums: "Funeral" (2020), which opened at No. 1 with 139,000 units sold, and "Tha Carter V" (2018), which had a massive debut with 480,000 units.
One of the standout singles on "Tha Carter VI" is “The Days", which features U2’s Bono. The track was previewed during the NBA Finals.
The 19-track album includes features from a wide mix of artists such as 2 Chainz, Kodak Black, Big Sean, MGK, and Wyclef Jean, along with unexpected guests like opera legend Andrea Bocelli and country artist Jelly Roll.
Even if the album isn’t breaking records, Wayne’s still getting love. Justin Bieber shared screenshots of a FaceTime with the rapper on Instagram, calling him “the GOAT”. Wayne reposted and hinted that the conversation had been a meaningful one, writing, “It’s a painful walk but we got each other ❤️.”
