The wound still stings!
Lil Wayne is closing the door on any future Super Bowl performances.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, the rap legend revealed he was deep in talks to headline Super Bowl LIX in his hometown of New Orleans, but the gig ultimately went to Kendrick Lamar.
Wayne admitted he played the industry game, stepping into circles fans rarely saw him in, from Michael Rubin’s all-white parties to hanging with Tom Brady, all in hopes of securing the spot.
“They stole that feeling,” he said of the missed opportunity. “I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”
After the announcement, Wayne shared that an NFL contact told him Roc Nation, not the league, had the final say on the performance, leaving him blindsided by the decision.
Adding salt to the wound, Wayne skipped watching Lamar’s halftime set altogether, saying nothing about it pulled him in.
For Wayne, the Super Bowl stage is officially off his radar.
