Lady Lava Named Billboard’s Caribbean Up and Comer for June

From rewriting gospel cassette tapes as a child to becoming one of the Caribbean's hottest female acts, Lady Lava's rise has been anything but ordinary.
Trinidadian Dancehall artiste Lady Lava is officially having her main character moment. The Ring Finger hitmaker has been named Billboard's Caribbean Up-and-Comer for June, adding another milestone to her rapidly growing list of accomplishments.
Lady Lava, whose real name is Keisha Harris, has been steadily building her career for years, but 2024's Ring Finger sent things into overdrive.
The unapologetic anthem about not making a non-committal man the centre of your universe struck a chord with listeners across the Caribbean and beyond, even earning multiple co-signs from Cardi B, who later popped up at one of her New York shows.
The success of the track helped Lady Lava secure the Caribbean Music Awards' first-ever Zess-Steam Artist of the Year title in 2025. Fast forward to 2026, and she's now the most-nominated artiste heading into the awards with nine nods.
In her Billboard feature, Lava reflected on her journey from writing poetry as a child and recording over her mother's gospel cassette tapes to becoming one of the leading voices in Trinidad's Trinibad movement. She also teased a debut album, an upcoming collaboration with Jamaican dancehall artiste NHANCE.
And yes, she's also the woman who gave streamer iShowSpeed a crash course in winning, a teaching achievement she proudly considers a success.
