Katy Perry Joins All-Female Crew on Blue Origin Space Flight

American pop-star, Katy Perry rocketed into space this morning (April 14) as part of an all-female Blue Origin crew, lifting off from West Texas under clear skies.

The all-female crew included Perry, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS Mornings co-anchor Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Amanda Nguyen, and producer and entrepreneur Kerianne Flynn.

CBS News captured the emotional moment the capsule separated from the booster, as King’s longtime friend Oprah Winfrey was seen wiping away tears of joy, overwhelmed by King’s achievement.

The capsule reached the edge of space, crossing the Kármán line, and the crew enjoyed a few minutes of weightlessness before returning safely to Earth.

Perry honored the moment by raising a daisy, a tribute to her daughter, and later reflected on the experience, saying, “I feel so connected to love.” During reentry, she sang “What a Wonderful World,” explaining the flight deepened her appreciation for both Earth and human connection.

Calling the experience a “perfect 10,” Perry hinted that her space adventure has already inspired a new song.
