Pop singer Katy Perry has addressed the widespread hate she has been receiving across social media following her recent 11-minute trip to space along with an all-female crew.
The trip, which Perry described as “making space for future women and taking up space and belonging” was facilitated by space tech company Blue Origin and featured TV anchor Gayle King as a passenger.
The harsh backlash against Katy Perry and the multi-million-dollar mission deeming the trip indulgent and unnecessary prompted the pop star’s fans, dubbed the Katy Kats, to come to her defense with a flood of videos expressing their support.
In a 300-word Instagram comment made by the star to one such video, Perry stated, “Please know I am ok, I have done a lot of work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me…My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself’. She went on to shut down the haters, saying, “When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love because I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed’.
