In light of the recent attacks on Teachers by students at schools across the island, President of the Jamaica Teachers Association, Owen Speid says teachers must practice self-preservation to protect themselves while on the job.

Mr. Speid’s comment follows an incident where the Dean of Discipline at the Oracabessa High School in St. Mary was attacked by a student yesterday.

The principal of another school in St. Catherine was also reportedly attacked by students earlier this week.

Speaking on the recent incidents, Mr Speid said the Ministry has been too slow in responding to the unfortunate incidents.

He added that students who carry out attacks on teachers should face the law.
