Approximately 50,000 customers about seven per cent of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customer base have been impacted by power outages following the passage of a squall line that began affecting the island around 12:15 p.m. on Monday.
In a media release issued the same day, JPS said the weather system brought unusually strong winds, resulting in sporadic outages across several parishes, including Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, and Manchester.
The utility company is urging members of the public to exercise extreme caution, particularly around fallen wires.
Customers are encouraged to report outages or electrical hazards using the JPS mobile app, the company’s website, or by calling the Customer Care Centre at 888-CALL-JPS (888-225-5577).
