The Oscar nominations are out, and “Joker” leads the pack garnering 11 nominations.
The origin story on Batman’s famous villain, Joker was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. The movie becomes only the second comic book movie to land a Best Picture nod, following Black Panther in 2018.
Meanwhile “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, “1917” and “The Irishman” each earned 10 nods.
Joker centers around mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck who is disregarded and mistreated by society. He embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: The Joker.
The movie grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide.
