The police have identified the Member of Parliament seen in a viral video attacking a woman.

He has been identified as JLP Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central, George Wright.

Reports from the police are that the unidentified woman filed a complaint against Wright last Tuesday in relation to the incident.

The Member of Parliament subsequently filed a counter complaint against the woman, however, the police say his actions in the video contradicts his claim.

In the meantime, Opposition Spokesperson on Justice and Gender Affairs, Donna Scott Mottley, is calling on the Jamaica Constabulary Force to bring all resources at its disposal to immediately investigate Wright.

She says he should resign from his office.

Mrs. Scott Mottley says the example that Wright has set is inconsistent with him holding this high office and it flies in the face of the national outcry against violence against women that is now pervasive.

Earlier Gender Minister Olivia Grange condemned the action saying she was deeply disturbed by the video and that a Member of Parliament was involved.

Minister Grange has discussed the video with the Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, who has asked the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
