The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, JHTA is optimistic that forecasts of a close to 70 percent occupancy for the upcoming winter season, will hold fast.

This, despite several country’s closing their borders due to the discovery of the omicron variant of the Coronavirus.

Yesterday, Trinidad and Tobago confirmed its first case of the variant.

The winter tourist season officially begins on December 15.

JHTA President Clifton Reader, says the 70 percent occupancy forecast should remain intact, with bookings already taking place.

He says tourism workers should expect financial gains similar to the pre Covid-19 period.

However, according to Mr. Reader, locations in Kingston and Negril are being disadvantaged due to several issues, among them the lack of entertainment events.

He says efforts are being made to increase the occupancy for properties in those areas.
