Lobby group Jamaicans for Justice JFJ has welcomed the guilty verdict against the three police officers charged with Mario Dean’s death in 2014.
Dean, who was 31 years old at the time, was allegedly beaten while in police custody on ganja-related charges.
He died days later in hospital.
Corporal Elaine Stewart and Constables Juliana Clevon and Marlon Grant, who were reportedly on duty at the time of the incident, were charged with manslaughter, misconduct in a public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The cops were found guilty yesterday (Thurs) after the jury deliberated for two hours.
Executive Director Mickel Jackson said, though justice has been served after 11 years, she is happy with the outcome of the trial.
