Before taking the stage at Sunday night’s (Feb. 16) NBA All-Star Game, Jennifer Hudson shared the news this weekend that filming has been completed for Respect, the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic in which she’s taken on the lead role as the Queen of Soul.

Hudson then shared a second post with a series of photos from the set of Respect, which is set to hit theaters on Oct. 9.

As Hudson confirmed to Stephen Colbert in December, Franklin — who passed away in 2018 — had handpicked her for the role back in 2007, following Hudson’s Oscar win for Dreamgirls.

Franklin made her final decision on the casting while Hudson was part of the 2015 revival of The Color Purple on Broadway.
