This pandemic may have left most of us jobless, but its surely putting money in Jeff Bezos pockets as he sets the record yet again as the richest man alive.
According to Bloomberg estimates, Bezos’ fortune has skyrocketed all the way to $171.6 billion. 56 billion has been added to his net worth in 2020 alone. The billionaire’s net worth surge comes alongside a surge in Amazon’s share price despite the coronavirus pandemic.
The billionaire no doubt welcomes the spike, as his net worth took a dip after his divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos last year. As part of the settlement, MacKenzie received 25% of the couple’s Amazon shares, or about 4% of the total value of the company, worth about $38 billion at the time. The ownership pushed MacKenzie Bezos into the ranking of the world’s richest women, and she is now the world’s 2nd-richest woman, behind L’Oreal heiress Francoise (“Fran-swazz”) Bettencourt Meyers.
