More men have been reporting to the police that they are victims of domestic violence.

There has been a 20 per cent increase in the number of reports made by males to Domestic Violence Intervention Centres, DVICs, in comparison to last year.

That’s according to National Coordinator for Domestic Violence Intervention in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Inspector Jacquiline Dillon.

Inspector Dillon noted that the centres are not only aimed at eliminating domestic violence against women and girls, but also against men.

She said the stigma that is attached to men reporting domestic violence is global, and as such, is no different in Jamaica.

Inspector Dillon notes that over 50 reports of domestic violence were made by men, since the start of the year.
