The woman who previously filed a high-profile lawsuit accusing music icon Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter of raping her as a 13-year-old has officially retracted her claims.
In a new court filing, the unnamed plaintiff confirmed that her allegations against Carter were completely "false," writing directly that he "never raped me" and that she has "never met or spoken to Mr. Carter."
The plaintiff’s new attorney stated that she was "entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter" and noted that she "sincerely and unconditionally apologizes" to Jay-Z and his family for the situation.
As part of her statement, the woman placed blame on her previous legal representation, alleging that they pushed forward with the filing without performing sufficient background investigation or due diligence. She also noted that she had disclosed existing mental health conditions to her prior counsel, which they failed to inquire about or evaluate regarding her memory.
