Jamaica’s egg production sector is showing recovery after Hurricane Melissa, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
No new egg import permits have been issued since December 2025, and the temporary duty waiver ended February 28.
The Ministry emphasized that imports were only a short-term measure to stabilize supply during disruptions.
Over 60% of previously imported eggs were brought in by local producers, highlighting industry involvement.
The focus now is on strengthening domestic production, improving resilience, and supporting farmers to meet national demand.
